What is chickenpox?
Chickenpox is a common viral infection caused by the varicella zoster virus. It’s highly contagious and is spread through coughing, sneezing and direct contact.
Chickenpox can affect all ages, but it’s most commonly caught in childhood. Some people, such as pregnant women and those with a weakened immune system, have a higher risk of complications if they catch chickenpox.
